Polperro Heritage Museum and Polperro Harbour Trust welcomed Richard Blair, Patron of the Orwell Society, and members of the Society to the exhibition’s opening on 4 October 2026.
George Orwell, born Eric Blair, spent family holidays in Polperro, staying with a local family on Talland Hill. His time in the village helped nurture his enduring love of the natural world. It was also during a visit to Polperro that he told his parents of his intention to leave the Indian Imperial Police and pursue a career as a writer.

The exhibition explores this connection between Orwell and Polperro, offering visitors an opportunity to discover more about the writer’s links with the village.
Polperro Heritage Museum is open seven days a week, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
